Job Description

Our client, a global agency in Houston, is looking for a freelance Senior Manager, Internal Communications to lead and execute internal communications for a large energy client. This individual will serve as a trusted communications advisor to the client’s senior stakeholders, developing and implementing comprehensive internal communications strategies aligned with their company’s goals and culture. This role requires a passionate storyteller and skilled communicator who can craft compelling content across a range of platforms—including executive briefings, global team messages, company townhalls, internal newsletters, blog posts, and social media—to foster a connected, informed, and motivated employee base.

Please note this a full-time contract through December 2025 and requires 4-days/week onsite in Houston, TX.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with senior executives to develop and deliver clear, consistent, and engaging internal messages that align with business objectives and company culture.
  • Lead the creation, planning, and execution of internal communication strategies and campaigns that support key organizational initiatives and change management efforts.
  • Craft high-impact communications, including executive talking points, leadership messaging, company-wide announcements, newsletters, and internal blog posts.
  • Drive planning and content development for company townhalls, leadership meetings, and employee engagement events.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Marketing, and business leaders to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging.
  • Leverage internal channels—including intranet, email, collaboration tools, and digital signage—to effectively reach and engage employees.
  • Use feedback, data, and analytics to evaluate the impact of communication efforts and continuously optimize content and strategy.
  • Act as a communications coach and advisor to senior leaders, helping them communicate with authenticity, clarity, and purpose.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or related roles.
  • Prior experience working with energy clients (gas or oil) a huge plus.
  • Proven experience partnering with senior leaders and managing executive communications.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging messages.
  • Experience planning and executing large-scale internal events such as townhalls or employee summits.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with internal communications platforms and tools (e.g., intranets, Slack, Microsoft Teams, email platforms).
  • A strategic mindset with a collaborative, proactive approach to problem-solving and relationship-building.
