Job Description

The Cities Energy team specializes in energy system modeling, analysis, planning and policy at the campus, city and regional scales. We work from visioning to concept strategy through to detailed design and delivery. The Energy team often works hand-in-hand with Buro Happold’s MEP engineers and sustainability consultants to deliver integrated, low carbon and resilient energy solutions at every scale.

We are looking for a consultant or senior consultant to join our Energy Team in the US, building on our strong track record such as New York City’s Roadmap to 80x50 and GeoMicroDistricts work to decarbonize utilities, and to support the team with the Energy Transition, winning new commissions and delivering excellent outcomes for our clients. You will join a rapidly growing global team of over 50 dedicated energy professionals located all around the world.

Responsibilities:

• Strong energy engineering skills
• Ability to apply systems approach to complex problems in the energy and/or built environment sectors
• Technical awareness and familiarity with the sizing, design, operation and implementation of low carbon technologies and key components in microgrids, solar, wind, geothermal or district energy systems.
• Experience of working as a consultant
• Ability to understand client requirements and deliver to meet them
• Ability to undertake research and evaluation of new technologies, policies and services in the energy sector.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate detailed design and technical subjects to technical and non-technical audiences using MS Office.
• Knowledge and experience of energy system modelling including techno-economic modelling of energy systems

Desirable skills:

• Bachelors degree preferably in a related discipline e.g. mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering, energy, physics or environmental engineering/science and working towards professional registration.
• Advanced degree or research background in energy systems or similar
• Background in physical science or engineering
• Experience leading consulting engagements direct to client including a track record of successful project delivery for a range of client types
• Strong demonstration of written and oral communications, presentation skills, and ability to communicate complex engineering and planning concepts (i.e. decarbonization, resilience) effectively to diverse audiences including municipal government, private investors, and community groups
• Professional Engineers (PE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification or similar
• Understanding of the market and supply chain for energy systems including geothermal, power/smart grid, district energy, energy storage and renewables in the US
• Strong understanding of the revenue models and costs associated with energy systems
• Experience of energy system design such as geothermal, district heating and cooling, power generation, CHP and renewables

What we offer:

• Salary range of $82,000 to $115,000. This will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience
