Job Description

Are you a visually driven creative who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment? Are you energized by the opportunity to participate in the graphical, as well as product design aspects of technical consumer products? Are you looking to join a team of A-players who are obsessed about our consumers and take their work – but not themselves – seriously?

We are looking for a Graphic & Product Designer to bring our innovative consumer products to life through compelling visual and structural design. In this role, you will develop packaging, product instructions, technical illustrations, and marketing materials that enhance both functionality and user experience. Beyond traditional graphic design, you will incorporate structural packaging elements, technical drawings, and product usability considerations to ensure our products not only look great but also communicate effectively with consumers.

Chaney Instrument Company, part of the Primex Family of Companies (PFOC), is a leader in weather, temperature, and timekeeping products. Our AcuRite brand is the #1 weather products brand in North America, providing cutting-edge, highly accurate home-based weather forecasting solutions. As a key member of our design team, you’ll collaborate with product management, engineering, and marketing to create high-impact designs that support our mission of delivering trusted, user-friendly consumer products.

Responsibilities:

  • Product Visualization & Development: Create technical illustrations, line drawings, and user-friendly product instructions that enhance consumer understanding.
  • Packaging & Structural Design: Develop and modify dielines for product packaging, ensuring functionality, durability, and brand consistency.
  • Graphic & Marketing Design: Design compelling visuals for product branding, including packaging, sales materials, website assets, trade show displays, and presentations.
  • Collaborate on Product Launches: Work closely with product management and engineering teams to align packaging, instructions, and product visuals with design standards and user needs.
  • Optimize User Experience: Develop clear, well-structured user manuals and instructional graphics that simplify complex product features.
  • Ensure Production-Ready Files: Prepare print and digital assets with high technical accuracy, adhering to production requirements.
  • Stay Ahead of Trends: Research packaging innovations, consumer behavior, and emerging design tools to drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage Multiple Projects: Work efficiently to balance multiple design needs while maintaining consistency and quality.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of graphic design experience, preferably in consumer products or a related industry.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Experience with packaging design, line drawings, and technical illustrations.
  • Familiarity with Figma, Canva, or other design tools is a plus.
  • Experience in motion graphics or video editing (After Effects, Premiere Pro) is a bonus.

Competencies:

  • Creativity – Generates innovative ideas and approaches to design challenges.
  • Customer Focus – Designs with the end user in mind, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience.
  • Problem Solving – Quickly identifies solutions and adapts designs based on business needs.
  • Time Management – Efficiently manages multiple projects, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Attention to Detail – Ensures accuracy and consistency across all design assets.
  • Collaboration – Works effectively across teams, incorporating feedback and aligning with company goals.
  • Learning on the Fly – Stays up-to-date with design trends, tools, and best practices.

Why Join Chaney Instruments? At Chaney, we believe that great creative work is rooted in strategy and fueled by collaboration. As a member of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on exciting projects for products across consumer retail channels, supported by a culture that values innovation, growth, and work-life balance. We’re passionate about delivering impactful results and building meaningful relationships—both with our consumers and within our family of companies.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Flexible work environment, including hybrid work options
  • Opportunities for professional development and growth
  • A creative, supportive, and dynamic company culture
