Job Description

Our client has an opening for a Sr. Scientist- Systems Integration to join as a key contributor to work with highly skilled scientific and engineering teams to drive projects such as development and execution of instrument workflows, system performance and data tracking, troubleshooting complex interactions between nucleic acid chemistries and mechatronic modules, and system verification and validation. Essential aspects of this position include detailed system characterization through rigorous design and execution of informative experiments and statistics-based data visualization. The right candidate will have an excellent background in molecular biology/biochemistry as well as moderate experience with the testing and integration of complex systems. This person will enthusiastically leverage their solution-driven mindset and experience in fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environments to bring a diagnostic platform to market.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Map bench-scale laboratory techniques into semi- and fully-automated procedures to run on a new platform (proof-of-concept through pre-production units). Platform includes automation hardware, single-use fluidics consumables, development and customer-facing software, and wet chemistry. This role involves biohazardous materials handling.
• Independently design, execute, and troubleshoot nucleic acid purification and real-time detection experiments performed both manually and automatically.
• Identify, confirm, and interpret instrument performance issues related to the integration of chemistries and mechanical modules. Take responsibility to design and maintain an issue tracking system.
• Design, develop, and execute detailed characterization methodologies for verification and validation, qualification for product changes, and root cause investigations.
• Complete statistics-based data analysis and make recommendations based on technical results.
• Comply with document control procedures and author reports in a QMS
• Embrace a customer-centric approach to product development.
• Present clear and concise written and oral communications to colleagues and supervisors.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Master’s degree in materials science, molecular biology, chemistry, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related field with 7+ years relevant industry experience or a PhD with 5+ years of industry experience.
• Experience in several of the following areas: systems integration in a regulated medical device environment (IVD highly desired) from concept to commercialization, fluorescence microscopy, microfluidics, surface chemistry, and molecular biology.
• Proficient at designing and running tests to evaluate the functionality and performance of systems comprising imaging, electrical, mechanical, vacuum, thermal, and fluidic modules and subsystems.
• Comfortable in Python or similar environments for hardware control, data processing, and data visualization.
• Clear oral and written communications skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and highly cross- functional start-up environment.
• Aptitude for approaching challenges with attention to details, critical thinking, and a strong sense of accountability.
• Strong understanding of a customer-first mindset for usability, safety, and reliability.
