Position Description: Scientist I (Medicinal Chemistry)

We are seeking a talented and motivated scientist in medicinal chemistry to support our discovery and development projects. The candidate will be responsible for the synthesis and analytical characterization of small molecules, learning and applying new skills in the discovery of novel compounds, and supporting related nonclinical activities of our development programs. The successful candidate will handle small molecules through all phases of the assigned projects from concept through to release -- and will manage prioritization and timely execution of the project tasks. This individual will work closely with purification, QC, and biology team members.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Synthesize and deliver analogue compounds to test PK/PD, toxicity, cell penetration etc.
• Synthesis of novel small molecule analogues for discovery projects
• Purification of small molecules in both solution phase and on solid phase
• Preparation, set up, and operation of automated and manual synthesis modes
• Perform analysis using MALDI-MS, LC-MS, HPLC, TLC, -UV-Vis, and NMR
• Perform purification using Prep-HPLC, lyophilization, and recrystallization
• Actively contribute to project teams and work effectively across functional teams to help advance programs
• Participate in group meetings, report status of work in progress, interpret and present data, and draw conclusions regarding material and nature of results
• Monitor and evaluate tasks to meet project time frames
• Support decision making processes while working with discovery team
• Demonstrate good verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Requirements

• A Ph.D. in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry or a related subject with 1-3 years of post-doctoral, industry and/or academic experience ideally in small molecule synthesis in both solution phase and on solid phase
• In-depth knowledge of chromatographic and analytical techniques, including flash chromatography, HPLC, LCMS and MS/MS
• Experience in organic synthesis and purification
• Prior working experience in Targeted Protein Degradation and PROTACs preferred
• Demonstrate good computer skills; a working knowledge of ChemDraw, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad Prism and literature searching software like SciFinder is required
• Strong desire to work in multi-disciplinary teams, learn new skills, and proactively solve problems
• Record of publications focused on small molecule synthesis
• Creative thinker with a strong sense of responsibility and a collaborative spirit to work in a start-up environment
