Safety Specialist II – Fabrication Shop, Manufacturing

BMWC is an industrial construction company seeking a Safety Specialist II to join the team. This position allows you to contribute as a critical member of our team, assisting to lead safety efforts within our Indianapolis area Fabrication shops.

You will be part of a top-performing project team and report to an expert in the industry. This position regularly interacts with employees, project engineers/managers, craft supervisors, and company operations leaders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Safety Specialist II, you will:

  • Perform all safety related tasks in locally assigned fabrication shops.
  • Conduct safety training on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, company, and customer safety policies and procedures within fabrication shops.
  • Conduct field safety audits.
  • Train and educate location management and workers on safety responsibilities, behaviors, and accident prevention techniques.
  • Assist in conducting incident investigations.
  • Work with local leadership and field personnel to identify potential hazards and controls.
  • Work with other contractors and the client to address safety concerns.
  • Assist in preparing and conducting weekly safety toolbox talks.
  • Local travel to Fabrication shops in assigned area required.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, or equivalent years of experience in manufacturing safety.
  • Certification preferred: OSHA 1910, OSHA 10 and NCCR; Knowledge of OSHA regulations, including 29 CFR 1910 and 1926, with specific understanding of lockout tag-out and machine guarding.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year+ experience in training.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with ability to translate information and communicate effectively amongst a wide variety of team members.
  • Working knowledge of noise monitoring for technical equipment.
  • Proficient computer skills, with experience in writing reports and additional documentation.

This highly visible position is part of the Safety department and reports to the Corporate EH&S Assistant Director. You will have frequent interaction with the Construction department and regular interaction with the Executive and Operations Leadership Teams, as well as vendors and all levels of internal and field staff.
