The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1.25 The Catholic Musician will: Provide instrumental music for Roman Catholic worship events at Saturday evening Masses, Sunday morning Masses and Holy Days of Obligation. Accompaniment shall be required for rehearsals, services, and special services. Special services include but are not limited to: Memorial services, Funeral services, combined services, faith specific holidays, and occasional support for special events.
1.25.1. Qualifications
1.25.1.1. Shall have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in music OR a minimum of five years of experience playing piano or organ in a liturgical church or Chapel setting.
1.25.1.2. Shall be familiar with a wide range of Catholic music to include the traditional, contemporary, and liturgical styles.
1.25.1.3. Shall be able to read music, teach vocal music part and harmony and demonstrate this ability via an audition with Chapel staff, the audition will be coordinated with the successful candidate by MMI.
1.25.1.4. A letter of good standing from the Contractor’s local parish priest shall be furnished with initial quote documentation. The letter must state the individual is familiar with liturgical year, liturgy planning and Catholic music ministries. Letter must be no older than 6 months.
1.25.2. Duties and Responsibilities
1.25.2.1. Is responsible for recruiting, training and assisting all volunteers for the choir(s) and musicians.
1.25.2.2. Provide/maintain a monthly schedule of music selections for coordination and approval by the Catholic Chaplain/officiating priest at least one month in advance of scheduled services and Holy Day preparations.
1.25.2.3. Provide choir direction and lead congregational singing to include leading (or recruiting qualified volunteers to lead) assigned Psalm, the Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus Dei and other sung/chanted portions of the liturgy.
1.25.2.4. Coordinate all special music to be performed at each service with the Catholic Chaplain/officiating priest. This includes solos, duets, adult choir, children’s choir, guest choirs, and guest musicians.
1.25.2.5. Provide weekly choir rehearsals, minimum one half hour in length.
1.25.2.6. Be present at least five (5) minutes before rehearsals and fifteen (15) minutes before Mass or other worship services that the Catholic Chaplain/officiating priest has coordinated for musical support.
1.25.2.7. Ensure all audio/visual equipment are setup and tested prior to each service/rehearsal.
1.25.2.8. Monitor the condition of choir equipment and advise the COR of any problems or needs.
1.25.2.9. Ensure the choir area is left clean after use by removing audio/visual equipment and restoring area to original/neutral configuration/setting, when the service is the last service for the weekend. Ensure fifteen (15) minutes after Sunday Mass, all equipment is returned to its original place or coordinated with the other music directors utilizing the sanctuary.
1.25.2.10. Maintain familiarity with current trends and requirements in Catholic worship.
1.25.3. Special Services
1.25.3.1. Contractor shall provide musical accompaniment for the below special services in coordination with the Catholic Chaplain/presiding priest, to include both rehearsal and performance:
1.25.3.2 The number of events in this contract will be up to 120 yearly.
