General Description: The primary responsibility of this position is to collect fisheries data over the telephone for surveys sponsored by State or Federal Agencies according to contract requirements. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, entering data, conducting silent monitoring, interacting with fishery constituents to increase participation, and assisting to ensure that all survey requirements are met.
Specific Description: The Fisheries Research Assistant is expected to interview captains and owners of fishing vessels over the telephone and assist with the biweekly mailing of advance selection letters. Approximately 3-4 hours must be spent working on one Saturday a month. The Fisheries Research Assistant may also be responsible for conducting validation calls for the Large Pelagics Intercept Survey (LPIS). Additional work on the LPIS may be required as directed by the Program Manager and Data Manager including, but not limited to, entering data from LPIS forms, reviewing forms and procedures with Interviewers, error-checking resolution, monitoring assignment completion, and logistics. The Fisheries Research Assistant must complete other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/Required Education, Experience, and Skills: The Fisheries Research Assistant must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), must be able to use QuanTech's custom Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) system, and have excellent verbal, written, math, motivational, and communication skills. The Fisheries Research Assistant must also have the ability to efficiently manage and prioritize multiple tasks, manage their time effectively, and have the ability to work with all levels of staff and management.
Work Environment and Expectations: Work is performed in QuanTech's Headquarters in Rockville, MD. Some of this work may be performed from home as conditions require. This position is not qualified for overtime.

Alternating week 1: Mon-Thu 12-9pm Sat 5-9pm
Alternating week 2: Mon-Fri 10:30-6:30pm (These hours are a little more flexible)
