As Director of Production, you are coordinating the day to day of the Staging Solutions team within the George R. Brown Convention Center. The primary focus is to lead the coordination and preparation of event documentation for the projects taking place. Management and execution of those projects along with the team to ensure seamless transition from sales to service and back to sales. We want to provide a resource that allows more of a partnership rather than a traditional in-house company. Our objective is to help clients enhance their event experience through our full service solutions.

George R Brown Convention Center is one of ten city owned and operated properties within the city of Houston. Houston First Corporation (HFC) is the official destination marketing organization which promotes the region as a destination for tourism and convention business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with Project Managers and technicians in the fulfillment of equipment specifications, labor requirements, and project deadlines to create flawless client experience.
  • Review of all event documentation
  • Coordination with sales, property departments and customers to ensure consistent, high level service from concept to completion of all events
  • Increase revenue opportunities through full service solutions
  • Lead pre and post event meetings
  • Facilitate the relationships between all HFC partners
  • Ensure compliance with all training, safety, and regulatory standards
  • Upholds all standards, policies and procedures, and celebrates successes with recognition of team members and their contributions.
  • Profitable management and execution of customer budgets to maximize both revenue and results
  • Drive the execution of long-term strategic goals established by the Leadership Team
  • Oversee and approve rigging operations in accordance with safety regulations
  • Ensure compliance with venue and industry rigging standards
  • Demonstrating competence with production power needs and will be required to work in a safe manner adhering to all safety standards.
  • Initiation of quality control procedures throughout the entire project process.
  • Selection, set up, oversight, and operation of rigging systems for events and other activities in the building.
  • Selection of alternative equipment and systems for troubleshooting and work-around solutions during event production.
  • Oversight for labor crews, as well as on-call personnel before, during, and after all setups to ensure efficient execution of shows/events.
  • Manage, maintain, and recommend updates to all AV equipment installed within the George R Brown Convention Center
  • Train employees on all SOPs and equipment managed throughout the George R Brown Convention Center
  • Schedule and assign operation staff to event

Qualifications

  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance big-picture strategy and fine details.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to handle time pressure, and adaptability to changing environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc), Google Docs, VectorWorks
  • Ability to work within CRM platform and integrated marketing automation
  • Proactive, independent, and results-driven work style in a project-based setting.
  • Positive attitude and approachable demeanor, capacity to mesh with varying personalities and styles of work
  • Proven ability to manage teams, develop employees, and foster cross-organization collaboration.
